The Self-Respect Movement was founded in 1925 by E. V. Ramaswamy Naicker, popularly known as 'Periyar', in Tamil Nadu. This radical social reform movement aimed to dismantle the caste hierarchy, challenge Brahminical dominance, and oppose religious orthodoxy. Periyar advocated for the rights of non-Brahmins, promoted women's equality, championed rationalism, and rejected superstitious practices and discriminatory traditions. His ideological contributions significantly influenced the Dravidian political movement in Tamil Nadu.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (Option 2): While a prominent leader for social justice, Dr. Ambedkar primarily focused on Dalit rights, founding organizations like the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha and leading movements against untouchability and for temple entry. He was not the founder of the Self-Respect Movement.
Bhaskarrao Jadhav (Option 3): A social reformer from Maharashtra, Bhaskarrao Jadhav was associated with the Satyashodhak Samaj, which worked for the upliftment of backward classes. However, he did not found the Self-Respect Movement.
Dinkarrao Javalkar (Option 4): Dinkarrao Javalkar was an author and activist from Maharashtra known for his nationalist and socialist writings. He was not associated with the founding of the Self-Respect Movement.
