The Individual Satyagraha was launched by Mahatma Gandhi in October 1940. This movement aimed to protest the British government's refusal to grant India independence during World War II, without directly obstructing the war effort. It was a symbolic, non-violent resistance where chosen individuals would publicly declare their opposition to the war and court arrest.
Acharya Vinoba Bhave was selected by Mahatma Gandhi as the first Satyagrahi, commencing the protest on October 17, 1940. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was subsequently chosen as the second Satyagrahi.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad, C. Rajagopalachari, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were prominent leaders of the Indian National Congress and participated in various national movements. However, they were not designated as the second Satyagrahi in the Individual Satyagraha movement.
